Arrested Development's Banana Stand

Me and my friends had an awesome day. Here’s a blog about it because THERE’S ALWAYS MONEY IN A BANANA STAND

Although not officially a bucket list item, this was deemed worthy enough for a mention on our blog. Today (Monday May 20th), a couple of us (Erika, Kathryn, Becca & Chelsee) went to the Arrested Development World Tour feature of the banana stand in Culver City, CA!

I randomly found out about this via Twitter (ah, the magic of the Internet).

Needless to say that upon immediately seeing this, I demanded that we attend. We waited an hour and fifteen minutes to get a free frozen banana and a picture in front of the banana stand. We were asked by a man in a car stopped at a nearby stoplight what we were waiting for. In which, many people responded, “A frozen banana!!!” in which said man could not fathom why people were waiting in line for a frozen banana for that long. Little did he know….Little did he know.

While waiting in line, we even saw Despicable Me Minions come out! Becca was convinced they had come to the banana stand, because it’s a joke in the film that the minions love bananas. Please watch the cutest YouTube video of the minions singing about bananas (this is now stuck in my head…also there should be a video of Becca singing this, because it is equally as great.) Sony Pictures is just down the street from where we were, so if they were that smart and clever on the fly, I’m impressed. Although I doubt that many people got the reference.

As we neared the front of the line, we debated about our pose for our photo op, in which I suggested hook hands (Buster!). However, it was unclear what the universal hook hand sign is (one finger curved out or your whole hand curved into a hook-like fashion….). Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I was pro whole hand curved in a hook-like fashion. In the end, we went with banana (banana hook hand!) in the left hand and smile. But the picture turned out so cute.

As we were next in line, there was a strange man talking to the lady taking the pictures. He seemed to be rather confused about what was going on and asked if he could get a picture, but the lady said no, because he was clearly just trying to cut the line… He then turned to us and asked us how long we waited and to tell us that he worked for Netflix (but he kept asking people what this was for/promoting…weird). The lady handed all of us Mr. Manager stickers and took our cameras and told the man he could take a picture with us for some reason. This strange man is now in our picture and he didn’t even get the picture himself. But all in all, such a successful endeavor.

We were even able to snag a free poster of all the characters! Here’s me with the poster. (:
